Instrumentalization of a minority
Xinjiang as another area of dispute between China and the United States
China's treatment of the Uyghur ethnic group cannot be viewed in isolation from the current geopolitical tensions between the People's Republic on the one hand and the United States and its allies on the other. In view of the escalating confrontation in the areas of economics, technology and security, it seems obvious to view Xinjiang as just another area of dispute.
